How to Overcome Hopelessness

I want you to know that your circumstances do not define who you are as a person.

Over the years I’ve spoken to many people that felt hopeless about their current place in life—family, friends, students, colleagues, random people, and so many others. I fully empathize with anyone consumed by a feeling of hopelessness because I’ve been there at different times in my life. If you or someone you know is currently in this space mentally, I want to offer a few strategies that helped me find a way out of it.

1. You are not your circumstances. Where you are right now may feel daunting. You may feel trapped. You may want to give up. You’re not alone. I want you to know that your circumstances do not define who you are as a person.

2. You have the power to make a change. Anything great that ever happened started with someone believing it could happen. Your current circumstances are challenging, but you must know that you will get into a different set of circumstances. Once you convince yourself to believe, the Universe will conspire with you to make a shift because you manifested your desire to get to a better place.

3. Your purpose is the path forward. This idea of purpose is a journey that we all embark on toward self-discovery and self-expression. During the times I experienced hopelessness, I realized that I was unclear…
